Christ the Rock in Menasha had a team that met for the purpose of developing and planting churches. One area that they were interested in planting a church was the Green Bay area. In 1999, a Core Team was formed to help plan and organize the church plant in the Green Bay area. We began a small group for people involved or interested in the church plant and who wanted to grow in their faith. We moved into a rented office space in August 2000 on Willard Drive, and another small group formed.
As we were moving toward our opening service, the Core Team decided in 2001 to start a Friday night prayer gathering, meeting once a month.
Our first service was held at the De Pere Community Center on Saturday, November 9, 2002. We continued to have services every Saturday night, while searching for a more permanent location. We really had no idea where we were going but knew God had his hand on this endeavor and we trusted that something would work out.
In mid January 2003, a building at 1050 Circle Drive opened up in Ashwaubenon, and we sensed it was from God. After some painting and remodeling, we moved into this building and had our first service in February 2003.
In 2008 we felt the need to move into a bigger and more strategic facility where we moved to 556 Main Ave our current location. 2012 we decided to lease the lower level of the building to accommodate the growing childrens, youth, and small group ministries. November 1, 2013 we ended the lease and purchased the building on Main St.
Our mission today is the same as when we started back in 2002 – to reach people for Christ and enable them to grow in relationship with God and with others.
Where to next?
The locations we’ve been at are simply symbolic of the journey we have been on. The “church” is not a building or a location. It is the people of God in relationship with Him, and as a result, in loving relationship with one another. As we grow in becoming a loving and Biblically-functioning community of believers, we desire to continue to be a part of seeing those who don’t know Him come to know Him, then to grow up in Him in all things.
